The Official Twitter Widget is probably one of the easiest and quickest ways to integrate a Twitter Feed into a WordPress website. Twitter went out of their way, to create a solution, that doesn’t require a lot of in-depth technical or programming know how. The problems seems to be, people simply do not know Twitter’s solution exists, as finding a way to integrate a Twitter Feed, continues to be a popular request.
Official Twitter Widget – Where do I find it?
This may be the reason, so many people cannot find Twitter’s Official Twitter Widget – It’s too easy to find
Wow, wasn’t that difficult to find now, was it?
How do I set up the Official Twitter Widget?
If you were following the instructions above, you’ll be on a screen where you can “Create and manage your widgets.” Simply click the “CREATE NEW” button. You can use the image below, to help you define your settings. Please remember to substitute your username, in the “Username” field, or your Twitter Feed will not show up the way you expect it to.
Copy the blue, highlighted code and keep reading.
Why not use a WordPress Plugin?
I am proud to use WordPress and it’s Open Source, Publishing Platform. Open Source makes it possible for an infinite number of Plugins and Themes to be developed. In fact, many WordPress Plugins and Themes offer Social Integration. If you can find one to suit your needs, far be it from me, to tell you not to use it.
However, these Plugins/Themes can be way more complicated, than they need to be. I’m often asked for (or told to find) an easier way to do things, in WordPress. Using the Official Twitter Widget is pretty simple.
- Log in to WordPress.
- Go to Appearance > Widgets
- Drag a TEXT widget to a widget area.
- Past the code (you were instructed to copy above – remember?), in the text area.
- Click the “SAVE” button.
- View any page, displaying that widget.
If you did it correctly, you should see your Twitter Feed, in a similar way, as the image below:
If you need a more thorough explanation of how to do this, check out Brian Bourn’s article on Bourn Creative. The article is about a year old, so expect some minor differences.
